Why simulators are the best way to unwind

There's a particular kind of calm that comes from a good management sim. No enemies, no fail state screaming at you — just a system you tend to, like a garden. Tideport Tycoon has become my go-to for the last half hour before bed.

The trick is finding sims without predatory timers. The ones that make you wait four real hours for a building to finish aren't relaxing; they're a slot machine wearing a cardigan. We only recommend sims where your time in the game is your own.

Offline is a huge plus here too. A wind-down game shouldn't depend on your home Wi-Fi being up, and it certainly shouldn't interrupt a quiet evening to check in with a server. Local-only sims just hum along peacefully.

Give it a few sessions before you judge. Sims are slow burners — the first ten minutes can feel aimless, and then suddenly you've got a plan, a rhythm, and a town that's genuinely yours.
