Six offline RPGs worth the storage space

Six offline RPGs worth the storage space

June 5, 2026 · Markus Vogel

Offline RPGs are a dying breed on mobile, so when a good one shows up we hold onto it. The problem is storage — a proper RPG can eat a couple of gigabytes — so it's worth knowing which ones actually earn the space.

Turn-based games tend to travel best. They pause naturally, they don't need twitch reflexes on a cramped screen, and they let you think during a slow commute. Emberhold Saga is our current favourite for exactly this reason: deep tactics, generous saves, no nonsense.

Watch out for the fake-offline trap. Plenty of RPGs boot fine without a signal but secretly gate your inventory or energy behind a server. We test every game in airplane mode before recommending it, and you'd be surprised how many fail.

If storage is tight, delete the game after you finish the story rather than hoarding it 'just in case'. A good offline RPG gives you a clean beginning, middle and end — treat it like a book you can return to the shelf.
